2024 Scholarship Recipients
We are thrilled to welcome these scholarship recipients for Fall 2024:
Judith Colibri is a emergent multidisciplinary artist, and educational psychologist. Judith has danced and participated in different national and international festivals from 2014 to date. She has performed in Cuba, Colombia, México, Canada and the US.
In her path as a creator are issues of social and environmental interest . She has created different choreographies of difficult themes and memories, but also more hopeful themes such as community, unity, empathy and social transformation through art.
As a teacher she has worked with people of different ages sharing the basics of movement, as a dancer she does different styles of dance: contemporary, afrobeats, pop dance and improvisation.
For her, dance is a universal language that helps us maintain our physical
and emotional health and helps us regain a sense of community.
Lance Lim is a local artist who grew up in the Strathcona district and his original movement background came from studying martial arts and Wu shu. As a former Wu Shu athlete, he competed in North American tournaments until he suffered major injuries.
This brought him to study dance at Simon Fraser University. He had several student pieces displayed at student shows. In 1998 he was involved with the Chinese Cultural Centre and worked with other artists on Self Not Whole, a showcase of Canadian Asian artists.
He also has had his choreography displayed in Dancing on the Edge and most recently as part of Vines and the Heart of the City Festival. He is a teaching assistant and associate artist with All Bodies Dance Group. Lance Lim is the founder of the Pigeon Den Art Collective in 2021 and has worked in production assistance with indigenous choreographer, Deborah Charlie in development of "Deer Dance."
TESTIMONIALS
“I think the scholarship program is a great opportunity to go after if you’re wanting to train consistently, get to know people in the community, and want to learn about different approaches to contemporary dance. I think it’s especially excellent if you yourself are not quite sure how to approach your personal practice since you’ll be able to try on so many and see the nuances in how people build their approach.” — Anna Wang-Albini, Spring 2024 Scholarship Recipient
“I am very grateful for this opportunity to train regularly and meet amazing artists through this program.
